The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) is utilized by many private schools for admission. The ISEE is comprised of verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics achievement and essay writing. There are four different levels of the ISEE (primary level for grades 2-4, lower level for grades 5-6, middle level for grades 7-8 and upper level for grades 9-12).

The HSPT (High School Placement Test) is taken by 8th grade students and is utilized for admission decisions at many parochial high schools. The HSPT consists of 298 multiple choice questions split across five academic areas including verbal skills, quantitative reasoning, reading, mathematics and language.
